Mayor William Glass reads resignations of Officers Armel and Dove to the council while Chief Doran may resign if others quit. Officers say salaries are too low to support families and the city must raise pay. The council faces a delicate crisis as a crippled force edges toward mass resignation.
Captain Hills announced to the local advisory board and thanked members for their support since the Salvation Army arrived in Winchester. The board, including Mayor W. W. Glass and several clergymen, will meet tonight at 7 in Surf House to discuss plans and how the Army can better serve the city.

The American Legion Auxiliary will host a card party and tea this Saturday at the Legion building. Cards start at 1 p.m. and a special hour is planned. Proceeds support the auxiliary activities and members are urged to attend.

Mrs Martha R Pifer Hoffman aged 81 dies in Middletown Va after clothes ignite burning paper pile in front of her home. She lingered since 11 am and died at 5 10 pm. Survived by sons Ray Hoffman and George F Hoffman and daughter Nellie M Marker. Funeral at Grace Methodist Church with interment in local cemetery. Her husband James W Hoffman died earlier in a quarry accident.
