Thousands are expected to gather for the Big Day parade in Winchester and nearby Lower Valley sections as cool, fair weather continues. The festival city forecasts a mighty turnout for the event.

Commander Byrd pilots a Byrd polar expedition plane with ski landing gear, breaks a ski in a Spitzbergen snow drift, forcing repairs. The crew and icebreakers clear a landing area along the icy coast while multiple raft trips load the Fokker and push toward the shore under tense conditions.
Governor Byrd reviewed Staunton Military Academy cadet corps on the parade ground at the Rouss Spring camp. Accompanied by Colonel Russell and academy officers, the six hundred cadets were watched as they drilled with West Pointlike precision. The review lasted over thirty minutes and the cadets then marched to their camp streets where they were dismissed.
Magistrate Arthur C. Stickley expects the arrest of Miss A Belle Larrick of Lexington Virginia's chauffeur after a Shenandoah county collision near Mount Jackson and New Market left Mrs Walter J Putnam of Binghamton New York severely injured. Larrick denies striking another car and no warrant exists for her.
Hood River Oregon May 4 The area experienced the heaviest apple bloom since 1919 with ideal weather spurring bee activity and a large set. Warm sun and calm nights caused trees to blossom in unison, signaling a potential record crop and a thinning season ahead.
Milan May 5 The Sevesco San Pietro team in Italian Switzerland faced a Chiasso side in a match noted for knockdowns rather than goals. Ten players were carried off on stretchers with four seriously injured as crowds and police reacted to the chaotic scene before the final whistle.

The Associated Press reports in Wilmington that Delaware’s whipping post is linked to a 33 13 percent drop in holdups burglaries and theft insurance. Despite limited enforcement, the post remains a legal threat for highway robbery and other offenses with lashes ranging from 15 to 40, though some crimes are rarely punished there.
