Gov. Linwood Holton said a strong new face could boost the GOP bid in the Virginia lieutenant governor race and its 1972 assembly slate. He named George P. Shafran as a likely candidate, noted Dawbarn would not run, and signaled plans to campaign heavily for party nominees while prioritizing his own governorship and budget.
