Cpl Roy Henderlite of the 7th Infantry Division was killed in action on Okinawa April 19. A native of Bloom Virginia he enlisted January 1943 at Camp Lee and trained at Camp Barkley and Fort Ord. He served in four major campaigns including Kiska Leyte and Okinawa and earned the Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Star. He is survived by his father and brothers Glenn Ray and Price and a sister Mrs Roderick Wallace of Stephens City.

Dudley Paul Pierce longtime Clarke county farmer and apple broker died at his home 421 West Clifford street age 74. He was born April 19 1871 in Clarke and married Katie Tanquary in 1896. He lived in Winchester after moving from Clarke and served as elder at Stones Chapel and later joined Loudoun Street Church. He is survived by wife, children Kathleen Dudley Emily and William, siblings, five grandchildren and several relatives. Funeral Thursday at 4 pm from his residence with interment in Green Hill Cemetery Berryville.

The body of Leslie Michael, one of six people who drowned when an 18 foot boat capsized on the Potomac near Dellinger’s Wide Water four miles south of Downsville Maryland, has been recovered along with two others. Navy divers from Bainbridge training station continue efforts to recover the remaining three. Michael, born March 27 1905 in Morgan County West Virginia, leaves a wife Elsie Barthlow and four children in Hagerstown. He was chief street department mechanic in Hagerstown and built boats for a living.
