Frederick county citizens will gather in the courthouse Saturday afternoon at 2 o clock to discuss a county fair. John Larrick will chair a committee meeting to decide site options and gauge public support for the project.
Governor William Langer of North Dakota and four associates were found guilty of obstructing an act of Congress. They immediately sought a new federal trial in Bismarck as a stiff re election battle loomed next week. The government charged them with forcing relief workers to contribute funds to a party newspaper.
Virginia Masonic lodges set June 25 as Reconsecration Day by order of Grand Master William Moseley Brown. Winchester Hiram Lodge No 21 calls a special meeting at 8 pm. The program includes prayers, lectures on emblems, music, refreshments, and a radio broadcast of the grand master’s message from Alexandria.
Jamestown New York report details a gas tank explosion sequence that killed six people and injured twenty three. A truck tank suspected as the cause ignited. the fire spread to a wholesale depot and two 20,000 gallon tanks before a pair of blasts ended the blaze as investigators opened a responsibility inquiry.
The New York Post reports a 1300 name radical list in the NYPD Bureau of Criminal Investigation kept as a private file by Captain Lagarenne. It allegedly includes Mayor LaGuardia and Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt and labels her as a socialist sympathizer and pacifist ally with radicals.
Charles J. Carrow associate consultant of the Virginia State Planning Board toured Winchester with City Manager P. P. Pilcher and Chamber of Commerce secretary Andrew Bell. He stressed the need for early adopted local plans and warned against growth of gasoline stations and hot dog stands in towns. He planned to visit Harrisonburg Staunton next, aiming to connect local state and national planning efforts to improve living conditions.
Tom Baldridge manager of the Capitol and Colonial theatres will host a quarterly advertising meeting for motion picture theatre managers from the Shenandoah Valley Virginia and nearby states. Frank La Falce Washington authority will speak and John E Firkoess Washington will preside as managers discuss merchandising and the upcoming film season.

Washington and Jefferson College director of physical education George H. Bartholomew, 48, is charged with murder in the death of 23-year-old actor George T. Mannis. Bartholomew is jailed without bail as a hearing set for Tuesday. Mannis was found beneath a brush pile in a corn field. District Attorney Warren S. Burchinal said Bartholomew signed a statement claiming Mannis "went limp" during a fight on a country roadside eleven days ago.

The seventy third Congress wrapped up after approving nearly seven billion dollars in new spending and a two billion dollar stabilization fund. Insurgents led by Wheeler and LaFollette forced action on a national labor board bill, despite a one man filibuster by Hastings. The housing program with government loan guarantees and the Frazier Lemke six year farm mortgage moratorium were among the final measures.
The Children's Home Society of Virginia plans to send a worker to Winchester soon to place two children in homes. A delay occurred due to the worker’s illness. Local fund drive led by Mrs. H. B. McCormac and Charles P. McVicar continues, with contributions welcomed this week or later.

A sky pilot circling over the home of Maurice Orndorff near Mount Williams alerted residents to a fire discovered about 9 am. Grace Orndorff saved three pieces of furniture as the two story seven room house owned by Harry Orndorff of Opequon burned in a roaring blaze likely started by a defective chimney. No insurance was reported.
Funeral services for Mrs. Catharine Dosh 90 were led by Rev. Dr. L A Thomas at Grace Lutheran Church. She was longtime church worker and former choir member and Sunday School teacher. Burial followed in Mt Hebron Cemetery with family and friends attending from several states.

The Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals refused a writ of error in Max Krol's case against the Commonwealth from Winchester. Krol, in frail health after embezzling $4,412.32 from Arthur G. Jones Woolen Mill, faces six years in the penitentiary. He was found in Chicago and returned to Winchester for trial. health issues and pending indictments loom as his bond nears expiration.
