3 Units Leaving Vietnam

The U S 9th Marine Regiment and the 1st and 2nd Brigades of the U S 9th Infantry Division were named among the first 25 000 American troops withdrawn from Vietnam. The move, to be completed by August end, signals a phased pullout as other units remain in theater.

Escapee Captured in Westmoreland County linked to Camp 7 break

State police said one of two Camp 7 convicts who escaped May 27 near Riverton was captured early this morning in Westmoreland County where his parents live. Newton is jailed there. he faces Warren County court for the escape. King, 19, remains at large.

Sara Schroth Wins Handley Star Leadership Award

Sara Schroth, 17, of 112 S Washington St, is named winner of the Star Leadership Award at Handley High School for excellence of character and leadership. She will attend Mary Washington College this fall and aims to teach English after earning a master’s degree. Schroth's honors include National Honor Society membership and a $500 annual award presented at commencement.

In Handley High School auditorium 177 seniors received diplomas with 20 students honored for awards. State Sen. J Kenneth Robinson urged youth leaders to step forward and participate in public life amid campus unrest. Band and Chorus Begin 32 Day Tour From Shenandoah

Music students from 45 states gathered at Shenandoah College for a 32 day concert tour that starts with a public 8 pm performance in the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. The 110 member band and 110 member chorus form the All-Student Groups USA and will depart from Dulles Airport tomorrow at 7 30 pm for Prestwick Scotland and a 12 country Western European tour. Paul B Noble Jr directs the band and Paul S Thompson directs the chorus with several Winchester area students among staff and chaperones.

Miss Margaret Ends 50 Years On Main Street Circuit

Miss Margaret Hodgson retires after more than five decades in business at the Margaret L Hodgson Hat and Dress Shop. A Johns Kerr School graduate, she learned millinery in Miss Frances Cline’s shop and later added dresses, keeping shop on the second floor overlooking Main Street. She also served in Washington during World War I.

Augusta Man Dies After Hitting Truck

An Augusta West Virginia man Herbert Ludwick died at 7 13 p m after a Route 50 crash near Capon Bridge that seriously injured his wife Sylvia and their 11 year old son Terry in Winchester Memorial Hospital the injuries to the wife and son were reported as fair and satisfactory respectively. Ernest Ackerman of Mountain Lake Park Maryland drove a westbound tractor trailer around a curve when the mishap occurred. The report notes the accident occurred near Rotary Club s annual Beef Barbecue event and lists local notices and sales items in the surrounding text.
