GOP leaders in Chicago reach a compromise after a decline in Lombard delegation. Leaders from major factions discuss policy directions and coordinate upcoming party actions. The agreement aims to stabilize intraparty competition and present a united front.
In Marietta Ohio General Charles G Dawes was named Republican vice presidential candidate after a swift convention process. He accepted the nomination in a formal statement and planned to return to Chicago for campaign planning.

Mrs. Algernon Sydney Sullivan and her son George Hammond Sullivan establish a trust with about 38 000 in securities turned to a corporate trustee to benefit Handley Schools. Income will fund education and salaries for identified beneficiaries as the Handley Board directs. The fund aims to honor Mr Sullivan and support school programs, with the principal held by the trustee.

Ensign H G Smith of Spokane Wash named outstanding hero as third charge removal ends danger aboard the Mississippi near San Pedro Cal. Seventeen officers and sailors perished with eighty injured in the peace time blast during target practice. Smith braved heat and fumes to inspect the turret and recover bodies after reporting no survivors.
Dispatches say the hospital ship Relief made a record run from its station to the Mississippi. Surgeon David C. Cather of Winchester is among Relief officers and was here recently visiting his aunt Miss Kate Shaull.
Washington June 13. President Coolidge issued an order directing the administration of the bonus law by government heads despite Congress not appropriating funds for the purpose. The directive establishes how agencies should handle the program under current financial constraints.
An unusually severe rainstorm struck this afternoon with little duration. Hail accompanied the precipitation, and the downpour resembled a cloudburst while no significant rain persisted afterward.
The Sarah Zane Fire Company plans a three day festival from July 3 to 5. The event will be held in front of the engine hall with upper and lower floors used to entertain guests and proceeds aimed at paying for a new truck. If rain occurs the entire hall will open to the public and Chinese lanterns will light the street.
