The Associated Press reports President Marion L. Burton of Michigan University praising President Coolidge at the Republican National Convention. The death of Squire H C Pierce prompts probate of a two leaf 70 page will written in his hand. The bonds are to pass to A C Pierce only after a specified condition is met to the daughter ease and judgment. The will superseded a 1922 instrument and names Conley R Pierce Gus Pierce and Mrs Blanche Morley as heirs.
A suit for absolute divorce has been instituted against a non-resident husband. The complaint cites desertion for more than six years and orders publication for service of summons. The case lists M. M. Jene as attorney for the plaintiff.

Virginia delegates backed Senator Carter Glass for the national presidential nomination if his name stays before the convention. Glass asked for no second choice, while noting he preferred another man. The platform reaffirms Jeffersonian religious freedom and calls for League of Nations support, a World Court of Justice, prohibition enforcement, farm aid, tariffs, and public economy.

President Coolidge won on the first ballot with broad support at the Republican national convention in Cleveland. Only three North Dakota and Wisconsin insurgents opposed, as denoted by 10655 votes for Coolidge, 34 for La Follette, and 10 for Johnson with 556 needed for nomination, followed by unanimous acclaim and plans to name a running mate later.

B F Strosnider a longtime Winchester resident and retired builder died at his son in law’s home after a six week illness from diabetes. A Greene County native, he came to Winchester in 1889 and directed the Sash Door and Blind Factory and later a building firm. His wife died 11 years ago and he lived with his daughter Mrs Hardy. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and revered as a quiet, loyal citizen. Pallbearers named from the Baptist church.
Fort Loudoun D A R plans a flag presentation at the opening ceremony of the George Washington Hotel next Monday at 3 PM on the roof. William Wood Glass will present the flag on behalf of the chapter, introduced by Mrs. Samuel D. O Neal, with R Gray Williams receiving for the hotel corporation. The event invites the public and will feature patriotic songs by a quartet.
Heavy accumulation of low priced stocks, especially southern and western railroads, at near year highs boosted forenoon market strength. Tobacco, motor, chemical and oil shares also gained while seasoned dividend rails rose moderately. Call money opened at 2 percent. closing was strong with about 1,000,000 shares traded.
