Eisenhower urges Congress to expand private health plans
President Eisenhower asked Congress to back a federal reinsurance service to expand private health insurance, extend coverage to farm and low income families, and reduce costs of prolonged illness. He proposed grants to states for juvenile delinquency, smog and water pollution programs, nurses training, mental health grants, and mortgage insurance for health facilities. Five hurt in head on crash east of Winchester
A Frederick County man and five others were injured in a Saturday night head on collision on U S Rt 7 about 150 feet east of the Winchester city limits. The Oldsmobile driven by Ro bert Armel 21 of Hayfield and a Chevrolet driven by William Hart of Stephenson said to have caused the crash. Armel suffered a possible head injury a facial laceration and knee injury. Three passengers in the Oldsmobile Rebecca Smith Shirley Jenkins and Rosie Corbin all from Rt 2 received minor facial abrasions and were treated and released. Hart was treated for a forehead laceration and released. State Trooper J H Smith Jr investigated the crash which sent the Olds into a fence and tree before overturning. The Chevrolet ended in a roadside ditch. The report notes no one was thrown from the vehicles. Continued on Page 3 Col 3.

Four Weekend Fires Hit Area Across Two States
Fire crews answered four separate blazes over the weekend. A ten room house on Oliveboy Stock Farm near Gaylord in West Virginia burned completely after a fire started late Saturday night. the owner Henry Boyd lives in Tennessee. John Enders and Charles Town fire companies battled the blaze discovered by Cecil Wolfe, with cause undetermined. The Kernstown fire on York Ave damaged a house owned by Mrs. Leona Grove with about 50 dollars in losses after a blow torch sparked flames. A field fire near Route 50 in Clarke County, caused by sparks from a Norfolk and Western Engine, caused no damage. A chimney fire on Kern Street was quickly extinguished with no damage reported.

Communist Guns Fire Shells as 7th Fleet Awaits Evacuation Orders
Communist forces on Yikiangshan fired shells toward the Tachens while the 7th Fleet stood by for possible orders to evacuate the Tachens, 200 miles north of Formosa.
