Advisory Board members plan a drive to raise 20000 for a new nursery at 501 7 Fremont St on a land gift. The present 30 capacity facility at 20 E Pall Mall St has a 60 name waiting list and needs expanded space for growth and safety.
The Star publishes biographies of Handley high school class presidents starting with the 1924 class. Today page 4 features Charlotte Campbell 1932 Mary Scully 1937 and Courtney Fauver 1944. Of 32 presidents 29 were boys and 3 girls. 19 boys pursued college, including five at VPI two at UVA two at Randolph Macon two at U Richmond and others at various colleges.
Fifty Frederick County women begin a three day Better Farming Beauty and Fashion Jamboree at Round Hill Community Center. A Curtis Publishing color film crew records sessions for national advertisers while Ruth Hoagland directs with Trudy Dye and Jane Cleeland introducing staff.

A week of deadly blazes in six states leaves 46 dead, many children, including a Amsterdam New York tenement fire that killed 11 children and a man. Fire officials cite an overflowing oil stove and subfreezing weather as factors.
A Ryland Conner longtime Winchester postman and 25 year Fire Company member was unanimously chosen to direct the 1955 Department of Firemen s Parade and Fireworks for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival April 28 29. At a large firemen meeting four city departments and six county companies approved the parade line prize list and an Honorary Fire Chief contest and formed committees for April 28 events. The group thanked 1954 director Eston Tevalt for a great parade and were joined by J P Arthur Apple Blossom Festival president and Tom W Bald ridge. Conner is a 35 year Uncle Sam employee and is married to Maude.
Rev. John Funk Locke delivered the morning sermon on The Mind of Christ from Philippians 2 at the First E U B Church as part of a dual-sermon Week of Prayer. Dr. Clarence Crawford of Calvary Baptist in Washington spoke on The Book We Teach at last night’s service. Daily services run 10 30 a m and 7 45 p m through Friday with Locke again Thursday morning and Crawford at other services.
At a George Washington Hotel dinner meeting 42 representatives from 20 Valley and Area communities endorsed participation in the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival Grand Feature Parade on April 29. Twelve communities plan floats. participation may include a local beauty queen, mayoral showcase, and a supporting band.

The Mothers' March on Polio in Winchester and Frederick County raised 3289.19 for the 1955 March of Dimes Campaign. In Winchester contributions totaled 1864.18 and in Frederick County 1425.01 with 100 volunteers canvassing and 150 county volunteers. Campaign director H. A. Lowry noted potential small additional receipts and mentioned lagging envelope and school collections.
A brief warmup ended a severe cold snap when a trace of snow fell and caused a traffic accident in which William James McAuliffe Jr. of Alexandria was injured. His 1953 Ford totaled in a two car collision on U S Route 522 near Hogue Creek seven miles north of Winchester. A second accident occurred at Clearbrook with details unavailable. Trooper P F Click investigated the McAuliffe crash noting mud on the windshield obscuring vision. Weather tonight brings a low around 35 with possible rain tomorrow.
In London Prime Minister Churchill expressed hope that the Chinese Communist regime would accept the U N Security Council invitation to discuss a Formosa cease fire. He told the House of Commons the Security Council’s action is a genuine move toward a peaceful solution and that Britain hopes for Chinese agreement.
The United States Air Force Symphony Orchestra will give a concert at Handley High School auditorium on Sunday February 13 at 2 p.m. The 85 piece ensemble under Col George S Howard will tour as part of the USAF Band. Proceeds will be split with 50 percent to the March of Dimes and 50 percent to fund an all boy choir in Winchester.
