Winchester Man Wounded After Tollgate Dispute
George Guthridge age 22 of Winchester was shot near midnight by an unknown man at the Williamsport bridge on the Maryland side of the Potomac. The party returning from Hagerstown said the tollgate keeper overcharged by 25 cents after passing without paying, sparking a heated argument. The toll gate was unattended. a five dollar bill given by Hi C. Borden yielded 4.25 in change, prompting the confrontation. The shooting occurred as the group pressed on toward Winchester.

Bucket Brigade Beats Firemen To Blaze
An alarm at 10 30 last night reported a fire at the home of Mrs Mary Denyers in northeast Winchester. A bucket brigade formed before the firemen arrived and the blaze was extinguished with their chemical extinguishers. Mrs Deavers clothing and household effects were damaged by fire or water. the house, owned by the Massey estate, sustained slight damage.
