President Coolidge accepts the resignation immediately after it is tendered. Denby defends Aggaon in the Teapot Dome affair while stepping down from the Navy post amid the scandal.
Assistant Secretary Theodore Roosevelt met with President Coolidge after Edwin Denby resigned as secretary of the navy. The White House discussed the oil leases and possible successors as Teapot Dome investigations unfold. Roosevelt said he would not resign, with page five continuing coverage.
In Frederick County magistrate court Justice A J Tavenner dismissed two assault charges against Leon McNealy Mt Airy school principal after testimony showed the boy Dwight Funkhouser had been paddled for assaulting another student and the girl Inez had been reprimanded for writing love letters. The crowded Mt Airy crowd applauded the ruling.
Fort Loudoun Chapter D A R hosts a colonial tea at Miss Lucy Kurtz's South Main Street on Friday February 22 from 4 to 5 30 pm. Admission is a silver offering with half to Memorial Hospital. Martha Washington gingerbread will be sold, and bronze markers are planned for graves of Revolutionary soldiers in Winchester. The chapter seeks burial site details for early soldiers to preserve their names.
Senator H F Byrd received a letter from H B Sproul of the State Highway Commission confirming the Winchester to Front Royal convict camp will continue and that the number of convicts there is to be increased. The rumor of its removal was proved false.

In London, mails from the United States are held at Plymouth amid scarce meat and supplies, with port cargo work largely halted and apple shipments to British ports dropping to near nothing.
The will of William H. Everly of Middletown was admitted to probate in Frederick county. He leaves his estate to his wife for life with the remainder to children J. P. Everly Ernest Everly and Mrs Emma Colfelt. Arthur receives 5 dollars and Albert Saum’s two children 2.50 each. Executed October 3 1922 J Park Everly is named executor with a 500 dollar bond.
A large coke pile at the Witchester Gas Company plant on Water Street caught fire yesterday afternoon and burned through the night. The Sarah Zane truck fought the blaze with water streams, gaining control after several hours. hot coke dumped on the pile is suspected to have caused the fire.

Dancing, an upcoming Henan night, and a Martinsburg orchestra helped attract visitors as over 100 couples packed the floor.
The body of William L. Clark aged 50, a Baltimore bachelor and club member, was found in his East Chase Street apartment with a gas burner tube in his mouth and the gas on. The coroner ruled suicide, notes his deep depression after his mother’s recent death. Clark was related to prominent legal figures and Virginia social circles. The Rev Dr F T McFaden pastor of the Winchester Presbyterian Church was elected grand junior deacon of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Virginia at the annual Richmond meeting. He is identified as a former Richmond pastor and now leads Winchester church, with Charles Callahan elected worshipful grand master and other officers named including Ben W Beach and James Bowman in senior roles.
The emergency committee reports a 103.25 check from Mrs. Phil Golds, organizer of the hospital cake sale on February 2 at Solenbenger's store. Community efforts across Stephens City and Winchester housekeepers boost funds with events led by Mrs. Totty, Mrs. Steele, and Ida Guard. Mrs Selina B Good widow of F D Good longtime Frederick county supervisor died at her son Lorin Good's Intermont West Virginia home after a three week illness of heart trouble and complications She was 65 and survived by four children two sisters and a brother Funeral services are planned at Shiloh Church with interment at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester Rev W C Long officiating pallbearers include her sons Lorin and Leslie Good and grandsons Leonard LaFollette and Murrell Anderson
Thieves entered the Price barber shop last night through a rear door panel. They damaged the interior, wrecked two slot machines and stole a small amount of money, leaving drawers ransacked and other articles scattered.
Mrs. Robert Smith is much improved after illness caused by excitement from a house fire last week. She is under the care of Dr. B B Dutton and is confined to bed at the home of Mr and Mrs A J White.
