Second Virginia Regiment Leaves Brownsville For Richmond
The Second Virginia Regiment with Company I Winchester departs Brownsville Texas for Richmond by special train. Commanded by Capt. Leedy and Capt. Conrad, they have been on duty since July 12 1916. They may stay on duty until German crisis abates and could guard local plants if needed. The unit expected to reach Richmond Sunday morning and may be quartered at local armories or sent to home stations.

Hershberger Dies of Tuberculosis at 37
John Elmer Hershberger longtime Evening Star employee and popular resident died at his home 116 West Monmouth Street at 11 o'clock Saturday night after a long tuberculosis illness. Born October 23 1883 near Winchester he was the son of George W Hershberger and Mary Hershberger. He will be missed by colleagues and friends. Continued on Pare Three.

A Cumberland dispatch reports soft coal jumping from 2.75 to 6.50 a ton Saturday, alarming users in Winchester and nearby. Local dealers say they may not raise prices yet but will follow market forces. buyers note large area dealers paying 5.50 per ton and retailing at 7.00, while mines charge around 6.00. Some small vein mines sell at 3 to 3.50 a ton.

The funeral of Alfred Montgomery Grim of Frederick county Virginia Roanoke Va follows a sequence of four bereavements in the same family within weeks.
