Deadly twisters struck Arkansas Alabama and Mississippi killing 31 and injuring about 100. Commerce Landing near Memphis saw 28 dead at a plantation area while Olive Branch Mississippi reported three deaths at Wiggins Negro elementary school. Ambulances ferried the injured to Memphis and Tunica hospitals as volunteers aided victims.

Snow and Ice Create Hazard Across Winchester Area
A five day cold snap brought ice and snow to the Winchester area with slick roads and hazardous driving. The Winchester Fruit Research Laboratory logged a half inch of snow as crews applied salt and abrasives to major routes. Police reported one minor accident. state police found no crashes in Frederick or Clarke Counties. Schools remained in session with no early dismissals planned. AP forecast expected colder weather and light snow flurries tonight.
