Four families living near Winchester Woolen Company on Route 50 were left homeless as a fire gutted a log and frame house owned by the J. Hunter Williams estate. Firefighters fought sub freezing conditions and low creek water for hours to control the blaze, which began in a flue and destroyed rooms including the dining area and attic.
