A blaze destroyed a significant portion of a fruit company’s works incurring an estimated loss of 50000 dollars. Firefighters battled the flames for hours, saving nearby structures as the cause remains under investigation.
A blaze, likely from spontaneous combustion of apple pomace, destroyed the National Fruit Product Company by product plant in Winchester's northwest, estimated loss around 50000 dollars. Winds pushed embers toward the city as several small roof fires started but caused little damage. Insurance covered the loss. the plant’s equipment valued at about 35000 dollars contributed to the total.
Reports state Lieut Osborne Cutler Wood son of Governor General Wood amassed between 700000 and 800000 in securities speculation conducted from Manila while he served as an aide. The War Department found no censure but advised him to cease speculation and returned him to duties with his commission preserved.

Joe D. Ranson was held in the city jail after a preliminary hearing before Justice Worse ly and sent on to answer an indictment by the January grand jury of the Corporation Court. He testified he fired believing Lippkins would reenter with intent to kill him after a quarrel. Commonwealth's Attorney James P. Reardon and defense counsel Harry Kern appeared. The case will be reviewed by the January grand jury when the Corporation Court sits starting January 21.
Miss Jemima Alice Heltzell of McCauley West Virginia died this morning after arriving at Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The 34 year old woman is survived by her mother Mrs Mahalia Heltzell two brothers C Lee and W R Heltzel and sister Miss Ethel Heltzell all of McCauley. The body will be taken to Wardensville for burial with services planned for Friday.
Jennie Williams wife of John Williams colored died Monday after a brief illness at age 46 years months and 17 days. She leaves her husband and two children Aeneas and Laura at home. Funeral Thursday at 1 o clock from St Pauls AME Church North Main Street conducted by Rev Walker.
Mr and Mrs Richard B Brown announce the birth of a son born Christmas Eve. He is the first son in the family and has been named Richard B Jr. Mr Brown belongs to the firm Hodggon and Brown jewelers.
New high records were set in the New York stock market this morning by about a dozen issues led by W National which rose 4 1 2 points. Other top gainers included corn products Cuban sugar preferred Pacific oil Associate oil Woolworth and United States cast iron pipe preferred. Trading was irregular and quiet with call money opening at 4 3 4 percent.

Fayette Osborne father of Dr Archibald P Osborne of Berryville Va died in Providence Hospital Washington after two weeks illness age 96. He lived with daughter Mrs Carlton Osborne in Washington and was native of Loudoun County. Survived by children Archibald Carlton Mrs William Jones Miss Gertrude and William Osborne step brother Volney Osborne. Funeral held at 11 this morning in Short Hill family lot.
