Post office staff work overtime to clear surging Christmas mail. General delivery and stamp services run 9:30 to late afternoon with no rural route service for Christmas Day per Washington order. Rural carriers from Winchester add a midday route aid. railway clerks assist on trains to keep mail moving.
Annett reports eight bloodhound pups born to Jai with one later dying. The remaining seven show strong appetites and health. Each pup expected to be worth about 60 dollars at six to seven weeks. Parents were sourced from Redwood Kennels in Lexington, Kentucky, about a year ago. both parents trained for scent work.

Mrs. Mary S Sibert widow of James W Sibert longtime Winchester jeweler and silversmith lies in Memorial Hospital after a fall near the Baltimore and Ohio station at Piccadilly and Kent streets fractured her hip. Doctors planned X rays to assess severity and she remains under hospital care for extended treatment.

An early 6 o clock service features the cantata Tidings of Joy with organ music by Miss Madeline Whitlock and a one hour service including scripture and prayer. A fire at the Washington and Old Dominion Railway passenger and freight station in Ashburn destroyed the frame building and two freight cars loaded with hay and gluten meal. The two car loads originated with J. W. Connor and a Leesburg firm, and with Norman and Harding of Ashburn. Firefighters could not save the structure or contents. origin unknown.
Announcement from Winchester notes the marriage of Jeanette Randolph of Winchester to Newton Robinson of Washington on November 28 in Washington. The couple will reside in Washington where the groom holds a responsible position. Jeanette is described as energetic and progressive, with ties to Centenary Reformed Church and strong community regard.

Mrs. Lillian Willey aged 65 widow of Marion Willey died at her Middletown home from a stroke suffered midweek. Survived by three sons Jessie Delbert M. and Orville, one daughter Mrs Mace Supinger, a brother Albert Hensel and sister Mrs H K Chrisman. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church South with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers were J R Watson E R Sperry R A Larrick T W Sperry W H Edmonson and W H Muse.

No criminal cases were tried and the jail was empty with no grand jury summoned for December term.

Jesse Pelacemaker was arrested Saturday on a charge of passing several forged checks. Harry Sartelle, assistant cashier, detained him and handed over to city police. Peacemaker allegedly passed three checks for 18 dollars each and five dollars payable to Joseph Funkhouser or Joseph Newcomb, dated December 5 17 and 22, all lacking true signatures. He will be held pending a Wednesday hearing before Justice Worsley. This case may go to the grand jury at the January term.
Julius Lippkina aged about 62 died at Winchester Hospital two weeks after a gun wound allegedly inflicted by Joe Rawson during a domestic dispute at the latter’s home. Authorities describe the fatal injury as resulting from a threat and a struggle, with Lippkina shot after being expelled from the house. He had moved with his family to Manchesterville, Va. and his body was prepared for burial this afternoon.
