Buck freezes in Shenandoah River rescue ends in venison for charity
Clarke County mail carrier Bill Hooker and Game Warden Blake Denny rescued a buck stuck in ice on the Shenandoah River near Locke's Mill. After a perilous crossing to shore and back, the deer died hours later despite efforts to thaw it. Denny notified the Clarke County Conservation Club, which will provide venison to a local family for Christmas.
