License suspended for 90 days in Virginia case
Commonwealth's Atty. Joseph Motley Whitehead had his law license suspended for 90 days effective January 1 and was reprimanded by a three judge panel. Asst. Commonwealth's Attorney George A. Jones Jr. will assume the position. Jones won the election after Whitehead did not seek re election. An appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court is possible.
Stevens Confirmed to Supreme Court as 101st Justice
President Ford won Senate approval for John Paul Stevens to join the Supreme Court as the 101st justice. Stevens will take dual oaths and serve after a 98 to 0 vote, with Chief Justice Burger administering the oaths. Douglas, 77, recently retired after a stroke and hospital therapy.
