James River Closed to Fishing
Governor Mills Godwin ordered a 90 to 100 mile stretch of the James River and tributaries closed to fishing as a precaution after traces of Kepone, a pesticide ingredient, were found in the waters. A state task force will study laws and possible legislation to prevent future incidents while the Health Department had already halted shell fishing due to sewage pollution.
