Hit and Run Cases Solved 19 Hurt in Weekend County Crashes

Negroes Boycott Buses After Woman Is Arrested and Fined
In Montgomery Alabama a Negro woman Rosa Parks was fined ten dollars plus costs for violating a segregation city ordinance after refusing to leave a white section on a city bus. Fred Gray and E D Nixon signed her bond. Park’s appeal was announced and a bus boycott by many Negroes followed with police preventing unrest. A mass meeting was planned to discuss further economic reprisals against the Montgomery city lines.

Twenty five car pileup on New Jersey Turnpike
Twenty five cars piled end to end on the New Jersey Turnpike near Swedesboro causing minor injuries to 13 people. A car stopped in the southbound lane triggered the crash as others braked to avoid it. Twenty cars were towed and traffic backed up four miles before clearing.

County Family Loses Home In Fire Saturday
A six room frame house owned by Mrs Raleigh Engle of Chester South Carolina was totally destroyed by fire near Kernstown. Mr Winston Teets and his three children and his sister in law were affected with no insurance. Firefighters assisted by the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Department fought the blaze that started near the telephone area around midnight Saturday. The alarm was raised by a passing motorist and the family is being aided by local agencies.
