Governor Stanley postponed the execution of Grover Willie Newman from next Monday to April 16 so he can be present as a witness in the armed robbery trial of Lawree Irby Tilton. Newman and Tilton were convicted of Eldridge Bunn's murder during a 1954 robbery. Tilton later received a 99 year sentence and parole eligibility after 12 years. Tilton's armed robbery trial date has been repeatedly delayed due to witness illness. no date for Newman’s armed robbery trial is set. A special Corporation Court grand jury opened in Danville to review alleged irregularities in the police department after reports of 82 missing guest tickets from last October’s Danville fair. A Greyhound bus collided with a pickup near Troutville eight miles north of Roanoke killing Harry Willie Hayth 44 of Buchanan Virginia. Four men in the truck were hauling live poultry to Trout with three injured andTransported to Lewis Gale Hospital. Police cited a lack of lights on the truck and a stuck accelerator as factors in the crash.

Gephus L. Quesemberry, 45, an escapee from Martinsville city farm, died after being struck by a car on U S 11 west of Salem. He died in Lewis-Gale Hospital last night following the Saturday incident.
President Eisenhower and top military and budget advisers reached a virtually final agreement on defense spending for 1956 57. Officials said the figure would stay near 34.1 billion dollars a year with no major changes anticipated. The administration noted little chance for a substantial tax cut next session.
