The Fifty-Third Great Fair opens drawing about four thousand visitors as every department reports full displays and busy booths. Officials hail turnout and promise continued attractions across arts, crafts, and agricultural exhibits.
The fifty third annual Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Society fair began on North Main Street with perfect weather and a record noon crowd of about 4000. Organizers shifted days to boost Tuesday and Friday, attracting large crowds and overflowing exhibits across home departments and new buildings.
Hammam Auto Sales notes Lincoln Cars will be showcased at the fair with a September production launch and display planned for visitors.
Franck Bakers Drug Store design chosen for the Doctor Godfrey Miller memorial at Court House grounds on Main Street. Herbert Lee a 23 year old white man from Del Ray West Virginia was struck on the left temple by a stone during an ambush near Capon Bridge. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in this city with a serious skull fracture and underwent emergency brain-pressure relief surgery. Lee was reportedly with Vernon Baker and his family before the incident at a Capon Bridge gas garage where a quarrel sparked a fight and Lee was knocked down.
