The 77th fair promises to outdo all prior years with record crowds and new displays. Organizers tout improved exhibits, expanded entertainment, and enhanced agriculture and crafts sections across the grounds.
The fifty third Winchester Fair opens tomorrow in Shenandoah Valley with record horse racing entries and top livestock poultry and horticultural exhibits. Mardi Gras nightly dancing halls auto polo free acts vaudeville from New York Hippodrome and European acts. daily balloon ascensions and an aero plane circus. Six postwar dirt track auto races cap a grand schedule aiming for the South’s most modern fair despite anticipated losses from a strong program and large attendance.
Notices advise motorists to use the newly resurfaced North Market Street to reach the Fair Grounds avoiding one way and congested streets. Shoppers are urged to stop at Neani B Barr & Bro to fill written grocery orders.
Winchester defeats Front Royal 9 to 2 on home field to climb to third in the Shenandoah Valley League standings. Key hitting from Ruppert Snyder and Legge backed by solid pitching from Holden as Front Royal offense struggles despite late innings. Umpire Warn from Harrisonburg corrects the pace as the game ends with Winchester safe on defense.
Miss Frances Peyton Taylor of Washington arrived Saturday evening to visit Miss Mary Louis Glass during fair week.
The Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Society insured twelve thousand dollars against rain for the Winchester fair this week. The coverage is split between Lacy and Arthur and Hansbrough and Carter.
