Governor A G Sorlie of North Dakota died in Bismarck this morning from heart failure after three days of critical illness. Arthur Gustave Sorlie, born 1874 to Norwegian natives near Albert Lea Minnesota, lived in North Dakota after age 16, worked in banking, general store, and fuel and feed businesses, and his death elevates Lieutenant Governor Walter Maddock to the executive chair.

Winchester W C T U Holds Forty Fourth Annual Meeting
The Winchester Women’s Christian Temperance Union met at the Friends Church on August 23 with reports from seven departments. The flower mission spent 420.33 aiding the sick and poor. literature distributed 159,946 pages. 327.34 spent in that line. Membership grew by 128 active and honorary members, now 416. Total expenditures reached 1,084.06. New officers and department heads were elected for the year at the meeting.

The heavy morning mail and Baltimore and Washington newspapers arriving in Winchester at 6.45 a m over the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad will arrive about an hour later or at 7.60 a m if schedules now contemplated by the railroad passenger traffic department are adopted. A new schedule may take effect this fall likely in the latter part of September with westbound train No 53 timed for 7.50 a m instead of 1.46 a m and eastbound train No 66 restored to 11.25 a m from 1.50 a m.
