Darrow Appeals for Mercy for Loeb and Leopold
In Chicago on August 23 Clarence Darrow urged Chief Justice Caverly to spare Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold Jr urging mercy for two “diseased minds.” He labeled the crime senseless with no definite victim and attacked Dr Krohn’s testimony while arguing the youths face a lifetime in a cell. He framed the case as a matter of mental sickness rather than deliberate malice.
