Regiments from the Men of Bampany paraded in review at Brownsville showcasing drill precision and discipline. Units numbered according to battalion strength with officers listed among command staff observing the event.
A Brownsville dispatch reports U S Army troops in camp near Brownsville under Col Hatch and Gen Parker. Recruits undergo combat exercise with ball cartridges rushing 26 miles by motor to shell dummy lines along the gulf shore. Payday earlier boosted prices, and a wind and rain storm damaged company kitchens.
Ashbeville North Carolina reports indicate Toxoway and Seheca rivers rising quickly as water from Lake Toxoway pours forward after the dam burst last night. No loss of life known so far, with crop damage in new sections not expected to be serious.
Justice Frank H. Krebs released Fred Pond on $500 bail provided by his employer Robert W. Schultz. Pond must appear in police court shortly to answer three charges in warrants served today.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Anderson who died suddenly at 444 North Main Street were held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. W. R. Alexander. Interment followed in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Choir selections included Asleep In Jesus and On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand. Pallbearers were Frank Beyer Mason Snapp James C. Smith Samuel G. Miller W. A. Sale and Edward Johnson.
William Kline, optometrist and optician, will visit Strasburg on August 15 at Hotel Machir Boxee, Berryville on August 16 at Hotel Boyce, and Battletown Inn on August 17 and 18. Hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm.
The State Highway Commission of Virginia calls for bids by August 25 1916 at Winchester for a steel bridge 148 feet long over Hogue Creek with 1.9 cubic yards of approach fill. Plans are at Winchester Clerk and this office. Bid deposits $250 for the bridge and $50 for approaches.

Miss Belle Faulkner entertained at her North Kent street residence Saturday night in honor of guest Miss Lucille Massie of Richmond. Massie is spending the summer at Monterey Inn in Blue Ridge Summit Pennsylvania. During her Winchester visit Massie has been very popular and greatly entertained.
