Ministerial body requests business houses close during the service. A moment of prayer and reflection will be held in front of the County Courthouse on Main Street from 11 A M to 12 Noon with participation by local clergy and residents.
Thousands in Winchester and Frederick County are asked to take part in a nationwide supplication service for relief from drought. Traffic will be diverted from nearby areas during the prayers.
Mayor F A Shryock urged all business houses industries trades and all county residents to close Monday at 11 o clock and join the union prayer service for rain in front of the county courthouse. The request calls for suspending activities citywide.
The Winchester Ministerial Association urged a united rain prayer for Monday August 11 from 11 am to 12 noon in front of the Frederick County Court House. Clergy from Winchester and Frederick County churches will participate, with church bells starting at 10:45 am to summon worshippers.
Winchester plans to host the Goodwill Air Tour from Portsmouth and Norfolk. Five or six planes with ten to twelve people will land at Winchester Airport Wednesday 11 o clock. They will be greeted by city and chamber officials and guests will attend a noon luncheon at the George Washington Hotel.
The county Sunday school association plans its annual convention at First Baptist Church of Winchester on September 4. Local speakers will present in morning and afternoon sessions along with two Baltimore speakers and the state secretary. A luncheon for pastors and Sunday school superintendents will discuss potential changes to align with the state organization.

In a county magistrate court Justice A J Tavenner issued a warrant at John M Massies behest for John G Bowman charging assault. John Cain faces similar charges. Both men were found guilty in court today fined 25 dollars and costs each and posted 200 dollar bonds on appeal. Massie a long time county poor farm supervisor describes an incident at the farm when Bowman allegedly attacked him to hire an employee to Kernstown to unload coal.
Irene Schroeder and Glen Dague of Wheeling West Virginia were sentenced to die in the electric chair for the December 27 killing of highway patrolman Corporal Paul Jee near New Castle Pennsylvania. Judge R L Hildebrand imposed the sentence after denying new trials. The governor will set the execution date.
The Funkstown Md Athletic Club nine will face the local baseball squad at Rouss Spring Park diamond tomorrow afternoon at 3 oclock. The Marylanders have taken the long end of the count from several Washington DC and Maryland teams and the Park Association boys expect a great contest tomorrow.

Vera C. MacMillan night chief operator of Winchester earned a Vail medal from John A. Remon Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia for her initiative in aiding the capture of a burglar attempting to rob the Winchester creamery safe on January 20 1929. The luncheon award ceremony included former Virginia Governor Harry Flood Byrd and city officials.
A New York firm issued fire insurance policies on apple orchards in this region, the first such demand in the apple industry. The limited coverage reflects the severe drought and orchard fire risk, spurred by recent losses near Martinsburg, with negotiations led by Clifford D. Grim of local firm and agents Hansbrough and Carter.
Newton Long of Frederick County was held for the circuit court on one count of possession of two stills after deputies and a federal agent found a 110 gallon and a 100 gallon still on his land near his home. A roadway from the public road led to the stills. Long denies knowledge of their presence. Weather near Winchester and nearby towns saw light rains and cooler air after a storm.
Carl Dovel of the county was acquitted in the county magistrate court of operating an automobile under the influence. Prosecutor T Russell Cather warned he would pursue perjury charges if witnesses lied. Five witnesses for prosecution said Dovel appeared intoxicated. five for the defense said he was sober.
Colonel C. A. Lindbergh and Mrs. Lindbergh flew in her new biplane from the aviation country club in Hicksville to North Haven Maine for a summer home of Ambassador Dwight W. Morrow. They planned a stop at Williamstown Massachusetts next week for Institute of Politics aerial navigation discussions. Charles A. Lindbergh Jr. was not aboard.

Department heads of the local fair's ladies' division met at Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Society to plan handling of exhibits for the main building. Two judges per class will be appointed. drought not dampening spirits as plenty of handwork exhibits are anticipated.
