The Valley boosters celebrate returning to their roots with extra ovations for juvenile musicians. A new program is broadcast tonight from Congress Square Hotel in Portland, highlighting local talent.

The Shenandoah Valley Trade Expansion Special arrived in Quebec and heads to Portland Maine for a 1 PM arrival. Handley High School Band members recover from seasickness after a Canadian voyage with tours of Quebec landmarks and breakfast at Chateau Frontenac.

Edward W. Parrish and his wife of Philadelphia were guests at a summer home owned by Mr and Mrs Cover on an island in Lake Champlain near North Hero Vermont. Parrish lit a cigarette in an automobile. his clothing saturated with gasoline ignited. Mrs Parrish and a bystander beat out the flames but he suffered severe burns to his legs and body and lay unable to be moved to a hospital for a week before transfer to Burlington Vermont hospital.
Police in Chesterfield county near Richmond investigate the shooting death of 76 year old J E Belcher a retired farmer found asleep in bed. The shotgun injury appears at close range and no motive is clear. Mrs Belcher and a daughter in the hall heard nothing and the weapon shows signs of long disuse. Local officers widen the search for a slayer as relatives and visitors are noted in the vicinity.

The notice warns residents of Winchester Frederick and Clarke counties and all Virginia that after August 16 1926 those failing to return intangible property such as stocks money and notes will face a penalty of ten percent of the tax due with a minimum of two dollars. Taxpayers are urged to file by the grace date this Saturday to avoid penalties and assessments will be carried out by the commissioner of revenue.

A mixed shipment from Rappahannock County Virginia through Maynard and Child of New York set a high Liverpool price for Duchess apples at 38½ to 40 shillings per barrel, with Rebels at 36–37 shillings and Early Harvest fruit at 20–21 shillings. The top price was about $9 per barrel.
The will of the late B. Frank Solenberger, who died recently in Frederick County, is probated in the Circuit Court. The widow Mrs Susie Solenberger inherits the entire estate so long as she remains a widow, with her named executrix duties and a $10 000 bond. The will dated May 16 1923 was witnessed by George W Jenkins and M L Capper.
Four weeks of drought in this region may end soon as forecasts predict rain starting Monday. Frederick county reports yellowing corn and garden stress while water supply holds, fed by distant streams. Clouds persist after midnight with high humidity and temperatures in the nineties.
Martinsburg fire department plans an athletic show as part of Cumberland Valley Firemen's Association convention. Spike Webb from Charlotte will box Jack Horner of New York in a 10 round main bout, Spider Britt of Washington faces Battling Hurley of Baltimore in eight rounds. Two preliminaries of four and six rounds plus a wrestling match. Bouts announced later. Held at Rosemont Park Thursday August 12 in Martinsburg. Tickets available in Winchester from local firemen.
Levi Boyd near Nain was fined 10 dollars and costs in county magistrate court for removing four small trees from Rev. John H. Parlett land. Parlett testified Boyd cut the trees without permission. Boyd claimed he bought two trees and needed a replacement for a rotten one. Appeal to the Circuit Court noted.
Yorktown Va Aug 7 Two people were killed and another badly wounded in a farm home shooting. William Muller, crazed by a dispute, shot his cousin Mrs C J Muller and then killed himself with a shotgun. An eight year old son found his mother’s body and alerted neighbors.
Gertrude Ederle, after 14 hours 31 minutes in the Channel from France to England, becomes the first woman to swim the distance. She declares determination, explains she could not quit despite doubts from her father and coach, and notes she could swim back if she tried. She receives a motor car as promised by her father.
