Mrs. Isabella McGhee Gilpin, wife of Kenneth N. Gilpin, crowned Queen Shenandoah at the Handley School grounds in a ceremony with 25,000 spectators. She wore a pale green satin gown with a 21 foot train and carried a six foot silver staff. The event featured 32 attendants, musicians, and visiting princesses from several states and D C.
