Conley a well known Confederate veteran of Jefferson county died Tuesday at the Soldiers Home Richmond Va where he had been an inmate for several years He was 89 a native of Jefferson county A daughter Mrs Snyder Bane Jefferson and Miss Virginia Conley Philadelphia survive Interment was held yesterday in Richmond.
Special Lenten services will be held at 5 30 tomorrow evening in Centenary Reformed Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. S. L. Flickinger who will speak on The Kind of a Revival Needed In Winchester.

Boston April 3 George A Rivinius of Winchester Massachusetts Boston representative of George H McFadden Philadelphia cotton merchant walked into a police station and told officials he was short 457213 in his accounts. Rivinius 45 years old prominent socially and father of four children blamed stock market losses for his predicament and said he wanted to be locked up because he was afraid of what he might do.

A blast at the Pennsylvania Fireworks Display Company plant near Seven, west of Philadelphia, killed nine people and injured many more. About 35 were taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital. two girls playing outside also died. The explosions shattered windows along the Pennsylvan ia Railroad line and shook parts of Philadelphia and New Jersey.
President Hoover selected Albert H. Washburn former minister to Austria as ambassador to Tokyo. Washburn died in a Vienna hospital shortly after the White House announced the appointment, which will not be fulfilled.
Virginia department of the American Legion officials led by Col B M Roszel will appear before a House of Representatives sub committee in Washington tomorrow regarding a veterans hospital for Virginia. Accompanying him are Dr A T Finch Dr W B Peters Howard Arnold and other leaders as hearings begin and run two weeks on hospital construction not in the Rogers hospital bill enacted last December. Baltimore and Ohio plans major improvements at Harpers Ferry with a multimillion dollar program. A new Potomac crossing will replace the tunnel, a diagonal bridge will span the river, and Maryland Heights will be altered to ease curves. The Millville to Old Furnace route will become the main valley junction.

Liquor and drunkenness cases dominated the last week in Justice Weems court. A. C. Bills paid 3 dollars for overtime parking on North Loudoun. Jesse Holt faced 68 dollars fine and 30 days jail sentence suspended. John Green, Joe Parsons similarly punished. Bertha Hovermale and Charles Beeler fined 35.25 and 25.25 dollars on statutory offenses. Arthur Osborne Millwood Harry Pence and J. L. Holzberry fined 12 dollars for being drunk.
All Elks meet at the Elk's Home at 9 30 Friday morning to attend the funeral of Brother M B Murnan. Secretary E T Snider notes the service and attendance.

Twenty Denison University geology students from Granville Ohio study geology in Winchester and surrounding areas. Dr F J Wright leads the trip focusing on the Appalachian and Blue Ridge regions and the Allegheny and Piedmont plateaus. They will travel over 1225 miles across Virginia West Virginia Maryland Pennsylvania and Ohio before returning Saturday night.
The State Teachers College Glee Club of Harrisonburg will broadcast a 15 minute program on WJSV at 7 p.m. featuring familiar songs including The Beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The tour supports the Mount Vernon Hills Apple Blossom Festival and promotes the coming fete.
