Horologist Jim Rides Old Clocks To New Craft
Jim, inspired by Roy Simpson and Bill Mowen, learns watchmaking in Kilgore and Port Lavaca. He repairs old clocks like a 1883 Holovars and a 1940s Western Union, balances momentum, and handles modern quartz and chronographs. He notes watches have 125 to 350 moving parts and compares servicing to CPR.

Farmers face crop insurance deadlines under 1994 reform act
Ricky Neffendorf of the Hays County ASCS outlined key dates for insured crop farmers. Catastrophic coverage must be in place to keep USDA benefit eligibility, with buy up options due by October 31 for fall seeded crops while catastrophic signups extend into early next year. Partial 1994 weather loss reimbursements begin in December for eligible producers, under the new Federal Crop Insurance Reform Act of 1994.
