Residents fear the new Hays County floodplain ordinance concentrates power in the Floodplain Administrator, potentially limiting development and requiring new permits. Critics warn it could negate monetary penalties for wrongdoing and enforce broad map-based controls. Copies of the modified ordinance are available at the Wimberley View office.
County officials discussed reducing jail capacity from 358 to about 206 by closing units D-11 and D-2 to meet state standards and avoid non compliance penalties. A 90 percent capacity rule would cap contracts at 185. current population averages 131 daily, limiting future demand. Budget impacts include a potential $117,000 reduction in medical, food, and janitorial costs if closures proceed, while staff salaries and most items remain, lowering the jail budget from 3,600,000 to 3,483,000 with no contract income.
A Wimberley student at Angelo State University was among 592 graduates completing Spring Commencement. Leslie Marie Ardoin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in management.
Bonniwell Anne Bonniwell graduates May 17 1992 from St Marys Campus of the College of St Catherine with an Associate of Applied Science in nursing. Parents Bill and Ima Robinson of Wimberley attend. The campus offers health care and human service career programs through associate degrees and certificates.
Jennifer Paige Gafford of Houston died at 13 after a June 14, 1992, illness. Survived by father Keith Gafford and stepmother Anne, brothers Randall, Gus, and Travis, and grandparents from Texas and Arizona. Funeral held June 18 in Wimberley with burial beside her mother.
