County floodplain ordinance amended by Hays County Board
Hays County Commissioners added Section E Enforcement and Penalties to the floodplain ordinance on June 22 with a court order penalty of a Class C misdemeanor per day of violation. Sheriff seeks more jail staff to maintain certification
Hays County Commissioners will consider hiring additional correctional facility personnel at their meeting Monday to retain certification by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. Sheriff Paul Hastings said certification is needed to keep lucrative contracts to house out of county prisoners. An annual inspection found an excellent rating except for staffing. The jail averaged 354 inmates with 224 contract prisoners, far above the target of 192, and has collected about 2.39 million dollars in jail revenues as of May 31 1992, with four months remaining in the fiscal year. Noncompliance could jeopardize federal and state contracts.

Wimberley Visitors Center grand opening date announced
The Wimberley Visitors Center will open on Labor Day September 7 with a ribbon cutting to be announced later. A $15,000 fundraising goal covers completion of the building site and furnishings for the 1,750 square foot facility. Expenses exceed original estimates by about $8,000.
