Haster Family and Their River Dam in Blanco County

The Haster family led by Ferdinand and Augusta settled along the Blanco River in Hays County after arriving in 1854. They built a stone dam, gouged from local rock, powering a grist mill and cotton gin, with labor by Henry Hubbard and Millie. The dam, completed around 1895, faced delays and partial washouts but remains a landmark beside the river.

Vermonts Oceanless Land Hides True Yankees and Rural Tales

Vermont borders Lake Champlain described as a small inland ocean between the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. The piece notes Weston’s authentic country store from 1897 and sketches rapid Texas family history involving the Haster lineage, mortgageed by tragedy and migration, ending with vanished Hasters on the Blanco River and lingering landmarks like the old Haster Mill and slave-era chimney.
