The Garlands in Leath Hollow near Wimberley moved in 1967 to a rustic country store and home site on Pierce Creek. Dr. Thatcher Gary identified three toed footprints and tail drag in the creek rock, dating dinosaur life to prehistoric times. Local and out of state visitors praised the heritage atmosphere and the town’s unchanged charm.

In a family reminiscence from 1916 to 1921 the narrator recalls summers camping in Wimberley, Texas. Grandfather Basil Dailey, at about age 14 in the 1860s, traveled from Stringtown to a Blanco River ranch with a freed ex slave. They slept under an oak by the road when three horse thieves were found hanged at dawn, a local tip suggested near Lockhart, with vigilante justice said to have occurred.
