DPS Estimates Fatalities Ahead of New Year Holiday
The Texas Department of Public Safety projects up to 40 traffic fatalities during the 78 hour New Year period from 6 p.m. Dec 29 to 12 a.m. Jan 2. Troopers will patrol statewide, citing alcohol and speed as leading factors, with 1994 data showing 23 deaths linked to alcohol and speed and 24 unbelted occupants.
