Wilson County pistol-shooting event aids Easter Seals
The Wilson County Sheriff's Department hosts a pistol marksmanship competition at the SH 97E FM 1922 range on Sept. 9. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with a $7 gun fee and $1 gate fee, open to the public, plus raffles and trophies for participants.

Texas completes biggest prison expansion program
TDCJ says county jail state-prison backlog wiped out ahead of a September 1 deadline after taking in over 20,000 inmates since June. Officials claim 30,000 peak backlog and $650 million in fines over housing costs are resolved as 14,000 beds remain to be opened only when needed. The expansion cost about 1.5 billion dollars, completed near half the national average.
