The move marks the bank's rise in north shore banking prominence.

Johnny Weissmuller to Demonstrate Swimming in Wilmette

Champion swimmer Johnny Weissmuller will visit Wilmette in early July to give an exhibition and swimming instruction at the Wilmette beach. He is president of the B. V. D. Swim club and supports teaching everyone to swim. Information on joining the club is available at Taylor's Dry Goods store.

Hearing on Grade Separation Set for July 15

Wilmette officials and the Wilmette Chamber of Commerce report a hearing on the Chamber petition seeking grade separation of railroads over village rights of way will continue before the Illinois Commerce Commission on July 15. The commission recently overruled a railroad counsel motion to dismiss the petition for lack of jurisdiction. The hearing will be in the commission’s Chicago chambers.

Legion Plans Fourth of July Observance in Wilmette

Wilmette Post of the American Legion will supervise the village Fourth of July program in Wilmette. Details are being arranged and may include fitting services and various outdoor events inviting village residents to participate. Next week's Wilmette Life will publish a full account.

Luncheon Club Members Visit Curtiss Field

The Wilmette Optimist and Rotary clubs held their weekly luncheons at Curtiss Tri Motor cabin plane for a bird’s eye view of the north shore. Optimists visited the airport on Tuesday while Rotarians toured Wednesday with Major Schroeder and associates.

Stanley Peterson Named to Village Building Commissioner Post

Stanley M. Peterson of 231 Seventeenth Street was named to serve as building commissioner for the remainder of the current fiscal year amid a heated Wilmette Village Board controversy. The session also noted John C. Blaylock’s continued role as temporary commissioner, with Blaylock an Evanston- based architect and consulting engineer on the village incinerator project.

Village Manager Ordinance Reported to Village Board

The village judiciary committee chair Ruth Hurd Snyder reported to the Wilmette Village board on an ordinance creating the office of village manager and his retention. The measure was held over to the next regular meeting for trustees to survey its provisions.

Ehrlic Petitions Court To Set Aside Wilmette Zoning

Benjamin Ehrlie of Chicago seeks a Cook County Superior Court order to prohibit Wilmette village officials from interfering with his plan to build an ordinary construction apartment on Fourth Street and Laurel Avenue. The board declined rezoning from Class A residential to commercial after public hearings. Ehrlie, represented by Judge Floyd Thompson, asserts surroundings make the site unsuitable for residential use.

Sign on Skokie Motor Roof Guides Aviators

A large new sign on the roof of the Skokie Motor company at 435 Main Street will guide aviators approaching Wilmette from the north with a nine foot Wilmette lettering. A second sign will direct traffic from the south. A 35 foot north pointing arrow is also painted. The Wilmette post of the American region supplied paint and labor.
