Wild Oats A Big Tax On North Dakota Farms
North Dakota farmers face a heavy yearly cost from wild oats mixed with harvested grain. The weed lowers yields, makes dockage at elevators, and worsens if crops rotate or are left fallow. Eradication methods include growing and killing before seed, using rye or late barley, and thorough plow work. Six inches deep burial for six years at the North Dakota Experiment Station shows wild oats can be killed.
