Mrs. McIntosh found William N. Kisso dead beside his bed in a Raum's ferry tent. Coroner A. J. Field and Dr. Hagan ruled death from a hemorrhage of the bowels following typhoid fever. Kisso, about forty, had traveled from Miles City by boat and lived a solitary life after his companion left.
L. W. Braman of Buford sent in samples of corn and sugar beets to this office. The ears measure eight to ten inches with three corn varieties. Sugar beets look very good and three weigh nine and three quarter pounds. Both crops were raised under irrigation.
A critique of creamery promoters who travel between farmers for quick profits. The piece likens promoters to bees, gathering honey then moving on, leaving farmers with empty buildings. It argues promoters act as unattached intermediaries who lack honest business practices.
A local girl, daughter of Van R Brown, was shot in the face and neck Monday while near the Muddy river. The incident occurred as two other girls were nearby and someone fired at a bird. She is not expected to suffer serious injuries. Olson and Haglund, recent buyers of Bros, plan to expand their general merchandise business in the city, with a large stock shipment anticipated soon. Olso n hails from Aurelia and Haglund from Minneapolis, both seasoned merchants.
Mohali N D Sept 12 The county seats of Renville county may fall to any claimant if cities fail to place their names on the ballot for the fall election. County officers report an opinion that the election must proceed with the ballot question to select a county seat and to list a voter's choice. Legal action may follow to settle the method of holding the election.
The Graphic reports Henry Tack, born in Belgium and longtime coal miner, moved from Illinois to North Dakota five years ago. He owns three quarter sections of land and avoids clocks to escape memories of bondage in mines. Tack is keen on labor issues and is well informed on current conditions.
Receipts for the three day event totaled 1301.60, helping cover all bills and prizes with surplus. The fair’s success amid below average crops promises a larger next year with more exhibits and growing attendance. Thursday and Friday races feature Florence Edith, Grace Evans, Ida L, and other entrants in a range of pony and horse events.
Twenty lives are lost as the Pere Marquette No. 18 car ferry sinks in Lake Michigan off Port Washington Wisconsin. The flagship of six ferries, valued at 400000 dollars, carried twenty nine loaded cars and a fifty man crew plus two women passengers from Saginaw. Cause unknown at this time officials report.
A fire at Bruegger Coal Mine on Tuesday burned the roof of the stone structure and damaged the hoisting engine beyond repair. Damage exceeds $1000. Cause of the fire is unknown. The notice adds a sales pitch about doubling advertising force.
Mrs T D Casey vice president of the Seventh district federated clubs is coordinating a district convention in Grafton on September 23 with Mrs N C Young president of the North Dakota Federation in attendance. Mrs Frank White of Valley City may speak on civic improvement. A club luncheon and an evening reception at the institute for the feeble minded are planned social features.
The Ladies Aid Society of the M E church will hold a home cooking sale on Saturday September 17 at 2 30 PM in the City Grocery store on Broadway.
The social department of the Civic League announces a dance Friday night at the Gates opera house with music by the Onstad orchestra. Sand wiches and coffee will be served late in the evening. Everyone is invited.
Mrs. A. A. Bradley hosted a Tuesday evening party for Mae Cummings who departs soon for Grand Forks. Music and recitations delighted guests followed by a late luncheon, as Williston friends look forward to her next visit.
Miss H. Kittleson announces a millinery opening this Friday and Saturday in the room on Main Street beside Champine and O Malley’s office. The sale starts at 1 PM Friday with a fine line of hats from the east and invites ladies to preview before purchasing elsewhere.
The county’s 1910 year end census shows 1217 first graders down to 8 in the twelfth grade. A sharp drop occurs after the first year with eighty percent leaving by the start of high school, raising concerns about retention and the cost per pupil per month.
Mrs. A. Johanna invites the ladies of the vicinity to view a fine line of Millinery on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 20 and 21, at prices that will please their husbands' pockets.
Emma Reynolds aged sixteen of Bainville Montana died in a city hospital from typhoid fever on Monday September st. The remains were sent for burial to Bainville. She was survived by her parents Mr and Mrs George Reynolds four sisters and a brother.
Portland reports show Democrats securing a large share of seats as returns come in. Democrats lead in state senate races with several contests already decided, and the party nears control of the legislature as votes from 88 of 182 districts counted.
A grand evening concert will be presented in Minot on Tuesday evening September 20 under the auspices of All Saints church. Notable participants include Mrs. R Barron Mrs Thomas Storey Miss Dahl Dr Storey and Miss F Dannell.
Robert Wilbur Bell seventeen year old son of Mr and Mrs Toe Bell died at 145 this morning from injuries caused by an accidental shooting Monday. He was repairing a twenty two rifle when a misfortune occurred as he attempted to shoot a black bird. The bullet entered his abdomen and he died after an operation. Funeral services will be held tomorrow.
