Reserve Agents Monthly Report on Ninth District crops

The Ninth Reserve District reports a mixed but largely strong crop picture for 1915. Wheat and oats show large yields and good quality, rye and barley near average, flax badly frosted in many areas, and corn uncertain beyond 60 percent in heavy-producing zones. Potatoes and hay are generally good, with late frost injury limited to some areas. The report notes normal interest rates, brisk demand, steady wholesale and retail trade, and improving collections. A late August frost reduced flax and corn prospects, though Minnesota and South Dakota flax fared well, and overall acreage had declined about 35 percent. The summary warns the frost from August 24–28 cannot erase prior optimism amid the district’s varied conditions.
