The Williams County Fair opened with stronger attendance than any previous day. Governor L B Hanna attended and praised county fair roots while Farm expert Mr Shaw spoke on corn. Exhibits showed remarkable floral displays and notes of excellent resources. Auto horse and running races featured victories by Joe Simpson Florence Edith and the Maxwell team winning a ten mile race in 14 minutes 26 14 seconds. A bowery dance at Metzger corner closed the day with lively public events.

F-4 Raised But Retains Secret in Honolulu Harbor
The hulk of the submarine F-4, lost March 25 with 22 crew, was raised and placed in dry dock. Debris filled starboard hull. bodies may be beneath debris or destroyed by marine life. Officials doubt any bodies will be found and will continue searches. A stray white sparrow sighting also noted on streets near the Bovey Shute yards.

Gold Shipment To United States Through Maine
A heavy guarded train passed Vanceboro on August 28 carrying an estimated 25 million dollars in bonds and 19 million in gold from London to New York. The cargo, on a six car express train with guards, was bound for British credit stabilization in the U.S. and followed a prior August shipment of 52 thousand dollars in gold and securities to the New York Treasury.

Ten Thousand Corn Growers Promote Northwest Show
A large boys corn competition named the First National Corn Show will be held in St. Paul in December 1915. Man Struck and Killed by Lightning on Farm
Odd Opsal a 27 year old farmer was struck by lightning while driving the binder on the Severson farm east of Manger last Friday evening around six. The bolt struck his neck and back, burning him severely and denting the binder seat. Death was instantaneous. He leaves a wife and one child.
