Steamer Sinks Off Alaska After Collision
A wireless operator sacrificed himself to save others as the Alaska Steamship Ohio sank near Steep Point in Hishkish Narrows. More than 200 were rescued by the Kingfisher Humboldt and Rupert City, with four crewmen and one passenger confirmed dead. The Ohio, on its Seattle to Alaska run, went down about 30 minutes after striking rocks.

A gasolene tank exploded on the second floor of the Kelly Canning factory in Waverly Iowa igniting flames that trapped 300 workers. George McRoberts died and three others were fatally injured. about twenty more seriously hurt as the building burned and collapsed. Mrs Walter is severely injured and not expected to recover.
