Arrest of Fargo banker Andy Jones ends long manhunt in Texas

A certified warrant for Andy Jones, the Rugby and Barton bank defaulter, was sent to Canadian Texas where he was arrested by federal agents. The Panhandle town of Canadian, Hemphill County, lies on the Santa Fe line, about 20 miles west of Oklahoma. Jones vanished January 1, leaving nearly 100 creditors and many depositors across Pierce County banks. The warrant, issued in May on federal jury findings, now brings Jones back to North Dakota to faces charges.

Superintendent Schollander from the Experimental farm visited on Tuesday to display an irrigated winter wheat sample raised this year. He stated it is a high grade for the region and, while the exact yield per acre was not yet calculated, the reported weight per bushel was 63 pounds.

Last Friday evening Miss Pansy Ovesen’s friends hosted a china shower at Miss Otie Atterberry’s home. Guests presented fine china and cut glass, each guest hemmed a dish towel, and refreshments were served. Miss Ovesen wed E. B. Olson the following day.

Jones Talks Freely of Case

Canadian Tex Aug 28 Andy Jones a fugitive North Dakota banker was arrested here on the 19th by Shely Johnson at the instigation of U S Secret Officer Dennenberg of Chicago. Jones was surprised and offered no resistance. He came with a woman calling herself Mrs Jones who disappeared after the arrest. It is believed she may have carried away a large sum of money. Jones says he will return to North Dakota to explain his dealings but does not admit the full extent of his alleged crimes.

Hitchcock Family Journeys From San Diego to Home

J F Hitchcock and wife of Rochester New York and B F Hitchcock of Philadelphia have been summering in San Diego. They arrived in Williston Tuesday afternoon en route home in a large touring car. The party departed yesterday morning aiming to sup at Minot last night, averaging about 250 miles daily.

First money for governor Sarles at Joliet race

Governor Sarles, George Newton's pacer, won first money at Joliet Illinois in the 2:07 pace. He placed in six circuit races, with one win, three seconds, and two thirds. Construction on the sewer outlet abutments and flume proceeds this week with main street sections to gain access by next Monday. Minot Loses To Alexander In Northwest Championship Series

In Minot last week the Minot and Alexander Minn teams played five games for the northwest championship. Alexander won four and tied one, concluding a strong series with Minot ending its season after the final game.
