St John Woman Burned To Death In Farm Fire
Mrs. John Merrick, employed on a North St. John farm, died from burns after entering a rooms upstairs where gasoline was used for cleaning. Igniting a lamp caused a fierce blaze. her clothing burned a mass. She died at St. John after Dr. Warren treated her. Merrick leaves two children. No blame on hosts for warning her not to bring a light.

Larned Retains His Tennis Title
William A. Larned of Summit New Jersey defeated William J Clothier of Philadelphia in five sets at Newport to defend the United States singles lawn tennis championship. The scores were 6-1 6-2 5-7 1-6 6-1. Clothier won in 1906 and this match marked Larned’s fifth career title and third consecutive, placing him near Richard Sears in all time record. Styrk Stenehjem arrived in the city last week and will attend school here this winter.

Grain Grades Established by North Dakota Board of Railroad Commissioners
The North Dakota board issued a bulletin detailing grain grades for the fall. Thirty wheat grades range from No 1 hard to No 4 velvet chaff. durum four grades. corn eight classes. oats eleven. rye three. barley eight. speltz three. flax four. Grain Fire Destroys Oats Hay and Barns Near Snoop
Snoop, a well known farmer six miles west of town, lost about 1200 bushels of oats, two large ricks of hay, granaries and barns in a late Friday fire. A spark from the threshing engine started the blaze as a west wind drove flames across two and a half acres, through stubble, a grove, and into the haystacks, then consuming the buildings.

The 50,000 bushel elevator in Williston started receiving grain today with Malcolm McKay as buyer. The mill, with 150 barrels per day capacity, is expected to begin operations next month. Sugar Beet Factory Site Chosen in Chouteau County
Judge Henry H. Rolapp of Ogden Utah returning from Europe visited Havre and Savoy to select a site for a new beet sugar factory. The project, backed by Amalgamated Sugar Co and Williston Land Co, will cost about 50000 dollars and boost eastern Chouteau county agriculture and regional development. Williston Land Co owns ~4000 acres. Overson and Jackson lead the land push and will meet company officials and local leaders to finalize site choices. The plant promises to spur intense farming across the valley, benefiting farmers in Havre Harlem Chinook and beyond.
