Nellie Larsen dies after influenza work in Williston
Nellie M. Larsen, longtime Williston journalist and tireless community helper, died Friday at 4 a m after a six day illness from pneumonia following influenza care. Born 1893 in Springfield Minnesota she moved to North Dakota 1906 and rose from farm girl to Williston High School valedictorian and city editor of The Bersld. She leaves parents J J and a large brood, with two brothers in service, and a town mourning a devoted nurse and friend. Funeral was private at Hamre Undertaking Parlors with Bethlehem cemetery burial.

Frank H. Humphrey of Charles Ferry received the Distinguished Service Cross for conspicuous gallantry with his infantry detachment in France. Leading his platoon he charged ahead with a private, attacked two German machine gun nests, disabled the guns, and killed the gunners. He is the son of Mrs. Jessie Kinal of Charles Ferry and his mother is praised for her sacrifices.

Mrs Foss of Alamo Dies After Brief Illness
Mrs. O. T. Foss wife of Farmers State Bank of Alamo president died Monday October 21 after a two week illness. Funeral held in Alamo last Thursday with burial in Ashby Minnesota. Born Ashby October 31 1884 she married O. T. Foss January 1 1907. Survived by husband two adopted children her parents a brother in France and two sisters Mrs Julia Arnold Mayville North Dakota and Mrs Annie Obr Breckenridge Minnesota. Active in church and charity circles and known in Williston.

October Court Term Postponed Indefinitely

May Entrained Draftees on November 11 Proclaimed
Advices from the Adjutant General indicate Williams County may furnish all available men to entrain to the camps on November 11. The local draft board wired the Adjutant General that 72 men can entrain on that date, including 41 men previously in Call A 1471 G which was cancelled due to influenza. Williston mourns the death of Goldie Brown Conley 34, wife of Grant Conley. She died October 24 after childbirth, days after a daughter born October 20. A respected writer under the pen name Wreston Conley, she published Heart Songs and lived for her family and community. She leaves four children, a sister, a brother, and stepchildren, with services at River View Cemetery.
