Memoir of Mrs John A Corbett in Minot Williston life

Myrtle Katherine Williams daughter of Minor and Eleanor Williams was born January 31 1877 in Baxville Wisconsin. She taught in country and city schools across North Dakota before marrying John A Corbett in Minot on October 26 1904. They lived in Williston from 1906 until her death from typhoid fever on October 17. Her funeral at St Peters Episcopal Church featured the Ladies Guild and book club, and she was remembered as bright vivacious and deeply devoted to church and city welfare.

In a Sunday address Prof. Hill highlighted Owen Kildare once a Bowery prize fighter who rose to literary fame with My Mamie Rose. The library holds the book and several other biographies including Edison Gordon Jackson Keller Roosevelt and Stevenson. Miss Alice Bergen, a dressmaker, left for Minot to join Mr. Stennis in Mondak Montana, with the couple planning to reside there.

Corn Contest in November at Williams County

The Annual Corn Contest of Williams county will be held at the court room Saturday Nov 11. Despite frost many fine maze specimens exist at Supt Tatem’s office and more are expected before and during the contest. Entries must be ten ears packed with sender name and address and reach the Superintendent by November 7. Alongside the contest the annual school officers meeting will take place with State Superintendent E J Taylor of Bismarck and N C MacDonald of Valley City to speak on improving rural schools.

Revetment Work Begins This Week At River Point

S R Morrow arrived from Bt Benton aboard a house boat as the first crew started grading for a new revetment to be built this year. Government crews will place 700 feet around the point below the Reclamation Service, continuing the old work. Workers needed include men and teams, plus brush and stone supplies. 225 cords of brush and 275 cords of stone are required, brush of willow with specs and bundles bound without wire. stone must be limestone or sandstone, 10 to 200 pounds, averaging 100 pounds.
