McVey Lecture Attracts Notable Local Audience
President McVey of the State University spoke last Thursday on the town’s history from early huts to modern city government. He discussed urban layouts, street widths, and methods of street beautification, school design, sanitation, and fly control, noting the eight foot center grass plot as beneficial. Dance at Gates Opera House Raises Funds for Basketball
Friday evening the Girls Athletic Association hosted a dance at Gates Opera House to benefit the basketball fund. Over seventy couples attended including students and parents with Supt Forester and guests Rd Mc Andrew Roe Opperman Kelsey Moe Eyolfson Lounsberry. Arsenault's orchestra played from eight thirty to eleven thirty as Home Sweet Home closed the event.

The Friendly Circle of the M. E. church held a Halloween party in the church basement, decorated for the season. Booths offered coffee, sandwiches, ice cream, frappes and other treats. young ladies in costumes served guests. The event netted over fifteen dollars for sponsors. Editor J. C. Mitchell of the Fairview Times was in town for a stopover on a business trip to Portal, Kenmare and Minot. Fairview is bustling with no vacancies noted in homes or stores, housing demand rising.

Wild Rose celebrated its first market day drawing large crowds as wheat shipments flow in. The Williston band performed and Onstad's orchestra played during a late evening dance. Freight service runs daily though no regular branch train service exists yet.

City power study proposes lignite furnace to cut fuel costs
H A Storrs conducted two weeks of tests on Williston lighting and water works to evaluate plant efficiency and costs. He considers U S Reclamation Service power as a future option, marketing to Helena’s Savage. Installing a two 150 hp and two 100 hp boilers with a 25 percent fuel saving could repay the cost in about ten months, with reserve boiler capability for future power supply. Continued on page 4.

Farmer’s Gun Accident Shatters Arm
Andrew Burle a farmer near Wilbur suffered a badly shattered arm Monday when a shotgun on his hay load discharged as it fell. The blast tore flesh and bone at the wrist. He was moved to Williston for treatment. doctors hope to save the arm but it will be shortened if successful.
