Williston Remembered Of 23 Years Ago In 1890s Era
In Williston twenty three years ago most residents traveled to Buford for a government sale. Frank Wild and Paul Schierbeck hunted near Cooperstown and bagged 54 chickens. Bruegger Bros received another invoice of fine winter clothing. Nelson School’s Miss Williams was the lone Williams county teacher at a Minot institute. O Hoff planned a Nelson creamery for spring and sought a post office east of Gust Carey's ranch. Tug Wilson returned home with a broken leg after threshing wheat near Wells and Eddy counties. John Heffernan recovered from fever and was seen about town. Brueggers sold apples at 3.75 per barrel. Postmaster Chas Baldwin drove to Nelson and to Fort Buford for a local furniture auction. E H Roberts kept the ferry in good order enabling Williston cars to cross the Missouri River. Jos Roach of Northfield purchased fat wethers here, taking 630 head from Ed Jack and Jae Brown, 200 from Nate Bellinger, and 200 from Lampman Bros, with George Newton helping load. The sheep were shipped Monday.

Math Jackobson died in the city on October 19 from pneumonia. He operated a shoe repair shop on West Broadway and is survived by a wife and several children. Born February 17, 1870 in Norway, he was laid to rest October 20 at Williston Cemetery.
